Direct teaching of wet felting and textile art techniques via Zoom
The direct contact and exchange with my students is very important for me! That’s the main reason why I struggled so long before sharing my knowledge online. The possibilities of online teaching on specialized platforms never felt right for me. I don’t want to spend precious time alone, making videos that students would have to watch alone.
I believe that technique is one thing but inspiration and creativity grows from working together!
During the containment I discovered a way of live teaching through my daughter’s teachers: meetings on the free app Zoom. Hooked straight away I started an essai and the feed back was awesome! Thank you to all who signed in nearly from one day to the other
Condensed content & small scales
I decided to offer classes of 2h30 as this seems a great amount of time to stay concentrated. The classes I usual teach in my art studio are organized in 2 or 3 days. My challenge was (and will be) figuring out interesting small scale classes that allows to push technical know how and creativity for beginners and advanced felt-makers.
3 Different online class are currently running
For now I imagined 3 different classes for all levels and will continue creating more.
"Sculptural Felt Vessel"
is about high quality sculptural felt. Learn how to shape endless forms based on one simple template. This class is perfect for beginners and advanced felt makers who wants to push their techniques and art to the next level.
"From surface to sculpture"
is about transforming sculptural felted surfaces into a funky critter (currently we make birds but the animal will change soon). This workshop works best if you have already some felting skills. You will be able to work with me in same time.
Beginners are very welcome, too! They might not be able to finish the critter during the class but if all participants agree I record each lesson so that you can review and make or finish the critter after the class
"Hollow form critters"
is a class thought especially for advanced felt makers. I teach several advanced creative techniques to make sculptural birds and fishes. We are working with an original Ariane Mariane template in a tricky shape. You'll learn how I'm creating eyes and lids, how to add a crest, wings or fins and how to shape different forms.
Professional teaching for a fair price:
All 1 day workshop fees varie between 30 euros to 60 euros. The prize depends of the technical knowledge shared (beginner or advanced felting techniques) and if an original template is provided.
Recording of the online class
Classes are recorded if all students agree and will be send to the participants after the class. For personal data protection only students present during the class will get the recording. I won’t give or sell them to third parties or students who haven’t attempt the class!
Art Vest / hat making and mixed media classes online
Many of you asked me to teach my art vest, hat making and mixed media classes online. I haven’t yet figured out how to make this happen. Not only these workshops take at least 12 to 18 hours it’s also difficult for me showing big scale project on a screen. Nevertheless all the small scale workshops I’m teaching use the same techniques as the big onces. A beret hat is made the same way as a sculptural beret hat, just it has twice the size. The advanced 3D techniques I teach in the hollow form critter workshop are similar to those I teach in hat making classes. Next I would love to offer a class about my fiber painting and surface design techniques that are helpful to design art vests.
Still I will bear in mind the idea of teaching longer classes online - just need more time to figure out how. Until then I hope to welcome you to one of my currently available classes!
